Introduction
A hydraulic lock is a control element in the hydraulic system. Its primary function is to prevent the flow of oil in the system, thereby locking the position of the cylinder.
This allows the cylinder to remain stationary even when subjected to external loads. A hydraulic lock is typically comprised of hydraulic check valves. In the absence of control oil pressure, this valve can operate in a manner similar to an ordinary check valve, allowing for unidirectional flow of oil.
When the control oil line has pressure oil input, the piston can be pushed to open the check valve and reverse the flow of oil. The hydraulic lock functions by utilising the inherent properties of liquid within a closed container. When the control valve is in the closed position, the hydraulic fluid is directed into the hydraulic cylinder. As the hydraulic fluid cannot be compressed, the hydraulic lock is controlled by the switching state of the valve, enabling the blocking and unlocking of the object.
